Upward Bound for the Arts!

The Charleston Concert Association (CCA) has a partnership with Upward Bound at the College of Charleston. “Upward Bound for the Arts!” is designed to help students increase their knowledge of the performing arts.

Upward Bound, under the direction of Mr. Leroy Lewis, is a college preparatory program designed to generate in its participants the skills and motivation necessary for success in education beyond high school. The Upward Bound program provides special academic and cultural opportunities for a limited number of high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors who have expressed an interest in pursuing a post-secondary education and who have demonstrated the potential to succeed in post-secondary education. Students in this program come from approximately fifteen high schools in the tricounty area.

Through “Upward Bound for the Arts!” students increase their knowledge of the performing arts and also increase their scores in academic competitions. Nine education sessions are offered with seven of the sessions corresponding to CCA performances. Students are offered free tickets to six concerts with an agreement to attend. Parents will receive tickets at a minimal cost.

College of Charleston students and faculty in the Arts Management program will serve as instructors for this pilot program.
